Words of Wisdom

Man is but a reed, the most feeble thing in nature, but he is a thinking reed. The entire universe need not arm itself to crush him. A vapor, a drop of water suffices to kill him. But even if the universe were to kill him, man would still be nobler than his slayer, bacause he knows that he is dying and the advantage which the universe has over him. The universe knows nothing of this.

From "Pensees" by Blaise Pascal (1623-1662)

Though nothing can bring back the hour

Of splendor in the grass, of glory in the flower,

We will grieve not, rather find

Strength in what remains behind.

From "Ode on intimations of immortality from recollections of early childhood"   by William Wordsworth (1770-1850)

Nothing is so sweet to man as life. Nothing is more precious than time. Nothing is more reassuring than the touch of earth and grass, the whisper of moving air, the smell of new blossoms, the sound of voices and traffic and high birdsongs.

From "The Devil's Advocate" by Morris L. West

What is life about?  It is about loving and being loved. It is about enjoying your food and sitting in the sun. It is about savoring the beauty of moments that don't last, the sunsets, the leaves turning color, the rare moments of true human communication.

From "When All You've Ever Wanted Isn't Ebough" by Harold Kushner

Finish each day and be done with it. You have what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day. You should begin it serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense.

                                                              Ralph Emerseon

Successful  is the person who has lived well, laughed often and loved much, who has gained the respect of children, who leaves the world better than they found it, who has never lacked appreciation for the earth's beauty, who never fails to look for the best in others or give the best of themselves.

                                                              Ralph Emerson

I don't know how to save the world. I don't have the answers or the The Answer. I hold no secret knowledge as to how to fix the mistakes of generations past and present. I only know that without compassion and respect for all of Earth's inhabitants, none of us will survive - nor will we deserve to.

                                                            Leonard Peltier

Work for a cause, not for applause.

Live life to express, not to impress.

Don't strive to make your presence noticed, just to make your absence felt.
