제멋대로 변형되어 원어민이 이해하지 못하는 영어를 bastardized English라고 한다. Konglish는 bastardized English이다. 한국에 Konglish가 있듯이 일본에는 Japlish, 싱가포르에는 Singlish, 중국에는 Chinglish, 태국에는 Tinglish, 이탈리아에는 Britalian, 독일에는 Denglisch, 스페인에는 Spanglish, 스웨덴에는 Swenglish, 헝가리에는 Hunglish가 있다.

 

Japlish와 Singlish의 예를 들어 보자.

 

Japlish

 

OL: short for office lady, meaning female office worker

salaryman: male salaried employee

biru: building

wapro: word processor

punk: punctured/flat tire

cooler: air conditioner

free size: one size fits all

potato fry: French fries

morning call: wake-up call

ball pen: ballpoint pen

push phone: touch tone phone

golden hour: prime time

panty stocking: pantyhose

 

 

Singlish

 

corright: shortened from “correct and right” which is Singaporean way to confirm something is correct and right.

double confirm: confirm and reconfirm

gahmen: government

ger: girl

jilo: zero

sabo: sabotage

go stun: reversing of any vehicles

you say leh: usually used when the answer is self-evident
